A Closer Look: Episode 33 - Leonardo’s Lady With an Ermine
We celebrate Leonardo da Vinci as a painter today, but he saw himself as a creative working across genres – of which painting was simply one among many.
In the late fifteenth century, Leonardo spent an important period at the Sforza court in Milan, working on a staggering range of projects for Duke Ludovico il Moro. While busily designing court spectacles and celebratory architecture, canals and military infrastructure, embroidery designs and monumental works of public sculpture, he also found time to undertake some of the most important paintings of his career.
In this episode, Dr Nick Gordon and Dr Kathleen Olive discuss one of Leonardo’s most accomplished portraits, the Lady with an Ermine. It is in Krakow's Czartoryski Museum today and you can view a high resolution image of it here.
