A Closer Look: Episode 10 - Rosalba Carriera’s Self Portrait as Winter

Rosalba Carriera’s works in pastel are exceptional. Her style and novel techniques influenced artists such as Watteau and helped popularise the oil pastel as a medium. But a similarly remarkable aspect of her oeuvre is the number of self-portraits she created across her long working life, allowing us a rare window on the life and identity of a female artist in the 18th century.

In this episode of A Closer Look, Dr Kathleen Olive discusses Rosalba Carriera’s masterpiece - Self portrait as winter.
